How to organise your posts

Tom Williams' blog from last year is organised well. Have a gander.

http://thomas-r-williams.blogspot.com/

Order should be:
- Final trailer
- Final Ancillary One
- Final Ancillary Two

Evaluation Questions in order

Planning.

I will make another post detailing what needs to go in your planning.

If your evaluation questions aren't finished by tomorrow upload them anyway, then tweak them over the weekend and let me kow when you have re-uploaded them.

I would rather you got 13/20 for your evaluation because it's not perfect rather than 7/20 because you haven't submitted at all.

Nearly there, this is the hardest part :-)

WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY...

The letter below was just sent to Danny, he has asked us if we can alert you to this opportunity. Read carefully and reply to Anna if you are serious about applying. :-)

Dear Mr Pearson,

I’m emailing you in the hope recent students of your college may be interested in this opportunity. We’re especially keen to hear from boys, as we already have many applications from girls!

I’m currently working for an independent TV company called Moonbeam Films, producing a short series for BBC Learning about child work around the world, to be used by teachers in order to promote classroom research and discussions. In each film a young British reporter will travel to different parts of the world to experience the ethically complex world of child labour – as they do so, they will explore the life, culture, economy  etc. of different communities and will discover how different life can be for children and other young people across the planet. The series will explore the lives of working children in contrasting situations, for example children working in potentially dangerous physical jobs in the cocoa-growing regions of West Africa, as well as children in high-end jobs as, for example, actors in Bollywood. The other two stories we’re currently focusing on involve football academies for young people in Africa (possibly Ghana and/or Sierra Leone) and children working in circus families in Russia.

We are currently trying to identify potential candidates for the reporter’s job: we’re looking for young people (min. age 18) who can relate well to others, especially children, and who  have an interest in the issues to be explored and/or an interest in the target country, or even simply an interest in human stories / journalism / politics / moral issues. Filming is to take place early in the new year (January – February 2012) and for the right person there may also be the opportunity of doing some other production work on the series.

If you feel that some of the students you deal or have dealt with may be interested in applying, please feel free to pass on the above details as you see fit. Could you please ask anyone interested to email me at annalaura@clearcut.tv asap incl. a CV and a cover note to explain why they are interested and ideally a short clip (no longer than 1 minute) explaining what attracts them to the role and why they think they’d be suited to it.

I would obviously be very happy to offer more information if required – and thank you very much for your time!

 Best regards,

 Anna Laura Malago

Good examples of evaluations from last year

The following powerpoint evaluations contain the detail and depth of analysis that you need in order to get high marks.

Each of your points should be:
  • analysed
  • compared to existing products to anchor your work
  • reflected on to show how you have progressed over the course of the last three months.

The way you present your work needs to be more imaginative, simpler and prettier to make the examiner want to read it.

Remember: you are creating another piece of media when you present your planning and evaluation documents so they must appeal to your audience i.e the examiner.

THOUGHT BEATS

In music videos and trailers for soaps, dramas, films etc, the edits often match the beat of the accompanying music. This helps the audience to engage with the image and the product appears to run more smoothly and professionally.
The film below was made by Dr Adam Rutherford, to celebrate the 135 missions made by NASAs space shuttles. The film charts one journey into space and back, but uses footage from all 135 of the journey, including the two accidents with Challenger in 1986 and Columbia in 2003.

The music was composed especially by 65daysofstatic and matches the edits and the changing tone of the film: hopeful and joyful at the start, fading to almost silence as the accidents occur, then  restarting with new purpose and energy to reflect humanity's ability to recover from incredible tragedy and setbacks.

EVALUATION INTERVIEWS!!

I've decided the most effective and quickest way to get your evaluations done on time and to a high standard is to interview you all individually. You will then edit the footage in iMovie and add clips and images from your final trailer to illustrate your points.

THIS IS OPTIONAL. IF YOU WOULD RATHER WRITE, THAT'S FINE.

I am offering this for students whose writing skills might let them down due to the short space of time we have to get the evaluation done.

However, one of the marking criteria is "use of ICT in the presentation of the planning and evaluation" and if you can make a short commentary rather than several long blog posts you are likely to get more marks.

I will be posting sub-questions that break down the four big questions for you to prepare your answers to, so don't worry about being unprepared.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS, BUT IT WILL WORK WELL FOR QUESTION ONE (USE OF CONVENTIONS) AND FOUR (USE OF TECHNOLOGIES)
