Dear Mr Pearson,
I’m emailing you in the hope recent students of your college may be interested in this opportunity. We’re especially keen to hear from boys, as we already have many applications from girls!
I’m currently working for an independent TV company called Moonbeam Films, producing a short series for BBC Learning about child work around the world, to be used by teachers in order to promote classroom research and discussions. In each film a young British reporter will travel to different parts of the world to experience the ethically complex world of child labour – as they do so, they will explore the life, culture, economy etc. of different communities and will discover how different life can be for children and other young people across the planet. The series will explore the lives of working children in contrasting situations, for example children working in potentially dangerous physical jobs in the cocoa-growing regions of West Africa, as well as children in high-end jobs as, for example, actors in Bollywood. The other two stories we’re currently focusing on involve football academies for young people in Africa (possibly Ghana and/or Sierra Leone) and children working in circus families in Russia.
We are currently trying to identify potential candidates for the reporter’s job: we’re looking for young people (min. age 18) who can relate well to others, especially children, and who have an interest in the issues to be explored and/or an interest in the target country, or even simply an interest in human stories / journalism / politics / moral issues. Filming is to take place early in the new year (January – February 2012) and for the right person there may also be the opportunity of doing some other production work on the series.
